‘Food matters......Fitness Too!!’

Footprints Women’s Centre has been involved in working with healthy eating initiatives since the mid 1990s. With the presence of an on-site catering facility we have encouraged healthy food choices both within the Centre and local community who purchase from delivery service.

The Centre has prioritised nutrition as key to improving health and in May 2009 successfully obtained 5 years' funding from the Big Lottery through the Colin Empowerment Project for a range of Nutrition & Physical Activity programmes (please see events calendar for details).

Each programme combines cooking skills with a fun physical activity and a food growing project. All programmes are accessible within the local community.

The programmes commenced in September 2009 and  target Home, Schools and Community groups. They were designed to meet the needs of specific groups such as pregnant mums and senior citizens.

The aim within each target group is to break down the barriers to healthy eating and active living through enhancing knowledge of their own particular nutritional needs, developing practical cookery skills and increasing levels of physical activity.

The programmes are underpinned with an emphasis on raising self-esteem and improving well-being and are tailored to help individuals and the community to make healthier lifestyle choices.
