Through our eyes

Footprints Women's Centre's 50 plus group were delighted to receive Heritage Lottery Funding to carry out a research project into the history and heritage of their local area in West Belfast.  The project 'Through our Eyes' enabled the 50 plus group to explore the traditional industries and businesses of the area - charting the decline of these and how the area has developed over the years to what it is today.

Flax Project

Flax is a cross-community project with the aim of encouraging good relations amongst different backgrounds through the medium of history, art and craft.

As a participant you will have the opportunity to:

  • Discover the history of the flax plant and linen making
  • Visit museums and mills with Windsor Women's Centre
  • Learn to weave in fun interactive workshops
  • Contribute to the final piece of art work to celebrate the project

Celebration of Learning 2016

Footprints Women's Centre was delighted to take part in the first ever Belfast Strategic Partnership's Festival of Learning and on Friday 11th March we celebrated the achievements of all the women learners who had enrolled on programmes from January 2016. Our guest speaker was Counsellor Nicola Mallon who congratulated the women for taking the time in their busy lives to become involved with training and staying engaged with lifelong learning. Leanne Johnson spoke about her own learning journey and the range of opportunities and services available at Footprints Women's Centre.

Footprints Women's Centre Training & Development Programme Enrolment

Footprints Women's Centre have spaces remaining on the following Training and Development programmes commencing January 2016. Classes are free of charge and include Essential Skillls Level 1 & 2 in Literacy and Numeracy. 

The Kitchen Garden Harvest 2015

Funding from Bombardier has supported Footprints Kitchen Garden this year and the Garden Group had a very successful growing season. The harvest this year included cauliflower, broccoli, peas, carrots, onions, tomatoes, chard and beetroot. The fresh produce was used in the catering service providing the children in the Daycare facility and the Senior Citizens group with healthy, tasty soups and casseroles.

Lidl Community Works

Lidl Community Crew visited Footprints Women's Centre on 6th October to deliver 60 food shopping bags with vouchers and samples of Lidl products. The centre was nominated by volunteer Pauline Diamond for Lidl's Community Works 'Random Acts of Kindness' Initiative. The goody bags will be given out to the various user groups and families availing of the Centre's servies and the volunteer team.

Macmillan Coffee Morning 2015

Cake tastes better at Footprints! On Friday 25th September we will be hosting a coffee morning for Macmillan. Last year we raised £300! Every little helps so we hope to see you there for some delicious cake and tea.

Footprint's 'Golden Girls' visit the Lord Mayor

The senior ladies group at Footprints visited the Lord Mayor Arder Carson on the 2nd June 2015 with staff and volunteers. The ladies lobbied and rasied issues of recent funding cuts and their impact on older people in the community. We had a great time and got a lovely tour of the City Hall. Everyone is currently enjoying our summer scheme full of activities including a barbeque and outings to places such as Dobbies Garden Centre.

The Big Brush Off

As part of their summer programme Footprints Women's Centre Young Girl's Group took part in Belfast City Council's clean up campaign, 'The 2015 Brush Off'. The girls picked up litter and cleared paths around Footprints Women's Centre and the Colinmill area of Poleglass. Well done to the group for all their hard work and effort.

Footprints Pre-School Graduation 2015

On the afternoon of Friday 22nd May, Footprints’ pre-school room started to fill up with our very excited pre-school children and their proud parents. While the staff got the children ready with their hats and gowns, the parents took their seats in the drop in. The children, looking very smart in their robes, got a few pictures taken and had one last practice before lining up to go outside to our outdoor play area.

Bombardier (NI) Foundation

Footprints Women’s Centre was pleased to receive a donation this month from Bombardier (NI) Foundation which will support the development of our Environmental Action Project this year.

This is the second year we have received assistance from Bombardier (NI) Foundation and this donation will enable the Centre to build on the success of our Food Growing Project ‘The Kitchen Garden’ and our Eco Adventure Club.

The Big Table Event

As part of the annual Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Footprints Women's Centre and Windsor Women's Centre came together to host a creative art and gardening session in Belfast City Centre.

Hosted by 'Open Source' in partnership with PLACE and 'Friends of the Earth' a temporary Big Table was created at Lower Garfield Street in Belfast for a weekend of discussions, activities, music and performance art, to bring back life to this empty space.

Home Cooking Takeaway

Footprints Women's Centre's Catering team have started a new service to assist busy parents with that all important evening meal.

Our Home Cooking Takeaway Service provides freshly cooked, nutritious meals at £2.00 per portion which can be pre-ordered and collected from Monday to Friday at a time which suits you.

Fully cooked in disposable containers with reheating instructions, all dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and no additives.

World Environment Day 2015

To celebrate World Environment Day June 6th 2015, Footprints Women's Centre's Daycare children planted a raised bed with summer flowering plants and climbers. The Pre-School class of 2015 are coming to the end of their time at the centre and these plants are a lovely addition to the Kitchen Garden and a reminder of the children who have spent part of their early years at Footprints Day-Care facility.

Colin Neighbourhood Oil Buying Club

Footprints Women's Centre together with Colin Neighbourhood Partnership and Colin Surestart have agreed a partnership with Bryson Energy to form the Colin Neighbourhood Oil Buying Club. Residents in the Colin Neighbourhood can join the club and make savings on their fuel bills and reduce their heating costs. Joining the club is free, and open to everyone, including owner-occupiers, housing association and Housing Executive tenants as well as private-rented tenants.
